Marisol Felip is a microbial ecologist and limnologist whose research has focused on the study of high mountain lakes for more than 30 years. She has developed extensive expertise in the ecology and biodiversity of microbial communities in these environments. Her work centers on understanding the functional diversity of microbial plankton across spatial and temporal scales, highlighting that global biogeochemical processes cannot be understood without considering the biology of organisms and the interactions within microbial food webs.
In recent years, her research has focused on applying state-of-the-art molecular approaches to characterize microbial biodiversity and functional traits, while assessing the suitability of diatoms as model organisms for ecological and evolutionary studies.
She is the director of the High Mountain Scientific Station (ECAM, Vielha-UB) and active member of the LTER Aigüestortes node, part of the LTER-Spain network.
