La recerca ecol\u00f2gica a llarg termini (LTER) i el monitoratge ambiental d&#8217;Aig\u00fcestortes cobreixen nou \u00e0rees (vegeu la figura). <\/p><p>La nostra recerca se centra en tres factors principals de la alteraci\u00f3 dels ecosistemes\u2014el canvi qu\u00edmic atmosf\u00e8ric, el canvi clim\u00e0tic i el canvi d&#8217;\u00fas del s\u00f2l\u2014i com interactuen amb la plantilla biogeof\u00edsica de la regi\u00f3, que inclou topografia, geologia, s\u00f2ls, vegetaci\u00f3 i hist\u00f2ria de les alteracions per modelar patrons ecol\u00f2gics i biogeoqu\u00edmics al llarg de l&#8217;espai i el temps. En conjunt, aquestes observacions fonamentals proporcionen la base per entendre l&#8217;estructura, la funci\u00f3 i les respostes dels ecosistemes al canvi global. S&#8217;utilitzen dos enfocaments complementaris per estudiar la din\u00e0mica hidro-biogeoqu\u00edmica i ecol\u00f2gica de les aig\u00fces interiors, cadascun seguint una estrat\u00e8gia de mostreig diferent. La primera, la monitoritzaci\u00f3 basada en sensors, proporciona mesures cont\u00ednues i d&#8217;alta freq\u00fc\u00e8ncia de variables clau, permetent la detecci\u00f3 de din\u00e0miques a curt termini i respostes ambientals r\u00e0pides.
