The main objective of his PhD is to assess the spatial and temporal variations in snow persistence and to determine how these patterns influence hydrological and biogeochemical processes in high-mountain catchments. By integrating field observations, high-frequency environmental monitoring, and remote-sensing data, his research aims to improve the understanding of how snow dynamics regulate water and nutrient fluxes across alpine landscapes under changing climatic conditions.
Through this project, he also aims to contribute to the understanding of a global issue affecting other regions with similar dynamics, where the consequences of seasonal snow loss are becoming increasingly evident. The study of the Pyrenees can serve as a model for understanding the functioning and responses of mountain ecosystems with permanent or seasonal snow cover that are undergoing comparable environmental changes.
