Lluís Camarero is a limnologist whose research focuses on the biogeochemistry of aquatic systems. In particular, he is interested in identifying the effects of environmental changes on biogeochemical processes in high mountain catchments.
His research combines two main approaches: (1) studies of contemporary limnological processes, including lake water physio-chemistry, coupled biological processes, and the influence of catchments on lake and stream dynamics; and (2) paleoenvironmental reconstructions based on the biogeochemical composition of sediments.
He is the scientific coordinator of the Limnological Observatory of the Pyrenees (LOOP) and has coordinated the LTER Aigüestortes node, part of the LTER-Spain network. He has represented Spain in the ICP Waters program under the Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollutants on behalf of the Ministry for the Environment.
